A World-First Milestone in Global Telerobotic Bariatric Surgery

July 11, 2026

We are proud to share a landmark achievement by Dr. Mohit Bhandari, Founder & Director of Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics and a leading Bariatric, Metabolic & Robotic Surgeon, who successfully performed 10 robotic gastric bypass procedures remotely from IRCAD France, Strasbourg, on patients located at IRCAD India, Indore, using the advanced MEDBOT Toumai Pro Robotic Surgical System.

This historic accomplishment represents a significant advancement in the field of telerobotic surgery and underscores the transformative potential of robotic technology in modern healthcare. By performing complex bariatric procedures across continents in real time, Dr. Bhandari demonstrated how innovation, connectivity, and surgical expertise can come together to transcend geographical boundaries and redefine access to specialized care.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it was completed during a single surgical session spanning 11 hours, connecting France and India through real-time robotic technology. The successful completion of these procedures established a new benchmark in transcontinental robotic surgery and showcased the immense possibilities of delivering expert surgical care beyond traditional geographical limitations.

The success of this initiative was made possible through the collaboration of globally recognized leaders and institutions dedicated to advancing surgical excellence. We extend our sincere gratitude to Prof. Jacques Marescaux, President of IRCAD Global, for his visionary leadership and pioneering contributions to minimally invasive and robotic surgery. We were also honored to have Dr. Manoel Galvão Neto and Dr. Mahak Bhandari present at IRCAD India during this milestone event, reflecting the spirit of international collaboration that continues to drive innovation in healthcare.

Adding further significance to this accomplishment, World Book of Records, London, officially recognized Dr. Mohit Bhandari for performing the highest number of transcontinental tele-robotic gastric bypass surgeries by a surgeon in a single session. This international recognition highlights the historic nature of the achievement and its contribution to the evolution of robotic and bariatric surgery worldwide.

More than a technological achievement, this milestone represents a bold step toward the future of surgery—one where expertise is no longer limited by distance and advanced surgical care can reach patients across borders. It stands as a testament to what is possible when innovation, collaboration, and clinical excellence converge to shape the next era of global healthcare.
